The Nokia Lumia 900 is a brand new smartphone but there is already an update set to become available that boosts the functionality of certain areas of the device. The phone allows users to access the Nokia Drive feature which helps to turn the phone into a satellite navigation device and this is one area that will benefit from the new update along with the Nokia Maps facility.
All Nokia mobile phones that run on the Windows operating system including the Nokia Lumia 900 and Lumia 800 have access to the excellent Nokia Drive feature and the new update for these models will enable consumers to use the service offline which ideal for when a data connection is not available. In order for this to work users will need to download relevant maps to the handset. Once the update has been completed for UK users they will be prompted to perform this action which will require 234MB of storage space and a further 4MB for the voice instructions. Other maps are available for different regions but users should be aware that these can take up a large amount of storage space, an example of this is the French maps which require over 400MB of space.
The Nokia Maps facility is another aspect of the Nokia Lumia 900 that will benefit from the new update that is being made available. One of the new features that will be implemented is the ability for users to store details of their favourite locations on the maps. These details will then be available for future reference rather than the user needing to enter the details again. Traffic support has also been included to inform users of traffic hotspots in their region. At present this element of the update will only be able in certain countries including the UK, Canada, Brazil and France. In addition to the changes to these two areas of the phone there is also a new Nokia Transport application which relates closely to all of the features that we have mentioned above. This app is useful for users who frequently use public transport as it keeps them up to date with travel news for public transport services.
The Nokia Lumia 900 is a great device and this new update adds some extra functionality to some key areas of the phone. The Nokia Drive feature is a superb satellite navigation system while Nokia maps is a very useful tool.
