When you sign up for Verizon Wireless cellular phone service, in most cases, Verizon will require you to sign a service contract. This service contract requires you to pay an early termination fee should you choose to cancel your service contract before the termination date. After your contract expires, however, you can cancel your service contract without paying a fee by calling Verizon Wireless customer service.

Verify your account. Answer the customer service representatives account security questions to verify your identity. Typical questions include the last four digits of your Social Security Number, your Verizon Wireless cellular phone number and your billing address.

Tell the customer service representative that you would like to cancel your Verizon Wireless service. Specify the date you want to terminate your service. You can elect to cancel your service immediately or on a specific date in the future. The customer service representative will process your request to terminate your Verizon Wireless cellular service.
You must pay all charges accrued on your Verizon Wireless account through your cancellation date. Verizon will send you a final bill approximately 30 days after your cancellation date.
