Nokia's new range of Windows smartphones are arguably some of the best devices that the Finnish manufacturer has produced in the last three years. The flagship model in this range is the superb Lumia 900 which is regarded as one of the best handsets currently available. We thought we would compare this model with the expected specification of the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 to see how the models will compare for display technology and multi media facilities.
When the Samsung Galaxy S2 was originally launched in 2011 it boasted one of the best displays available on any smartphone. It looks as though it successor is likely to raise the bar again when it comes to screen technology. It is expected that the model will launch with a massive 4.6 or 4.7 inch display. This screen will use Super AMOLED Plus technology to help produce great image reproduction as well as very wide viewing angles when compared to traditional LCD screens. It is expected that the model will offer a very high resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels which means that the device will be able to display high definition footage. The pixel density should rival the Apple iPhone 4S with approximately 319 pixels per inch. The Nokia Lumia 900 uses an AMOLED display that measures 4.3inchs. The resolution on this display is slightly disappointing for a premium handset at just 480 x 800 pixels. Although the phone does produce a high quality of image the pixel density is considerably lower than what the S3 will offer at 217PPI. Gorilla Glass is used on the Lumia 900 to provide extra durability and the S3 may use the next generation of this material which is reportedly much thinner than the first generation.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 looks likely to include a superb multi media suite that will incorporate a high quality digital camera and excellent video recording features. It is rumoured that the model will capture photographs at a resolution of 12 million pixels. This will put the device in line with the new Sony Xperia S in this department. An image stabiliser will be featured to help users capture the very best pictures while touch focus will let users focus on any area of the photograph that they desire. The Lumia 900 includes an 8 mega pixel camera that uses a very high quality Carl Zeiss lens which helps the device to produce fantastic images. Like the S3 there are a wealth of additional features such as an LED flash and geo tagging options. Both of these models can record high definition video footage although the Samsung does so at the higher 1080P resolution than the 720P standard recorded by the Lumia.
There is no doubt that these two premium handsets will both prove very successful with consumers. The Lumia 900 will appeal to users wanting a great Windows handset but the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers the better screen technology and multi media facilities.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is coming soon and the Samsung Galaxy S2 is available now.
